Negroni and The Fig

See this content in the original post

The Negroni and the Fig is a bold yet subtly sweet variation of the classic Negroni. The bitterness of Campari and the herbal complexity of vermouth are beautifully balanced by the rich, fruity depth of homemade fig syrup.

On the nose, the cocktail opens with the familiar sharpness of Campari, intertwined with a soft, sweet note of ripe figs, giving the Negroni a smoother, more inviting aroma.

The fig syrup introduces a fragrant, fruity layer that complements the herbal notes of the vermouth.

NEGRONI AND THE FIG

  • 30ml / 1oz No3 London Dry Gin

  • 30ml / 1oz Campari Bitter

  • 15ml / .5oz Carpano Antica Formula Vermouth

  • 15ml / .5oz Fig Syrup - learn how to make the syrup HERE

METHOD:

  1. Add all of the ingredients into a mixing glass.

  2. Add ice and stir till chilled.

  3. Strain over a large ice cube or ice-filled Old Fashioned glass.

  4. Garnish with a fresh fig slice.

TASTING NOTES:

On the palate, the drink retains the classic bitter backbone of a traditional Negroni. Still, the homemade fig syrup adds a luxurious richness that softens the bitterness and rounds out the overall profile. The fig’s natural sweetness blends seamlessly with the vermouth's botanicals and the gin's bite, creating a balanced flavour that feels robust and refined. Each sip delivers a well-rounded combination of bitterness, sweetness, and fruitiness, with the fig offering a subtle, jammy undertone that elevates the cocktail.

The finish is long and complex. The bitterness of Campari lingers on the palate, tempered by the sweet, earthy notes of the fig syrup. The cocktail leaves a satisfying, slightly bitter aftertaste, with just a hint of fig sweetness that fades gracefully.

OVERALL PROFILE:

Nose: Sharp bitterness of Campari, softened by sweet, ripe fig notes, with herbal and citrus hints from the vermouth.

Palate: Bold and balanced, classic bitter Negroni flavour smoothed by the rich, fruity sweetness of homemade fig syrup, alongside herbal gin and vermouth.

Finish: Long and complex, lingering bitterness softened by subtle fig sweetness and an earthy, fruity undertone.

The Negroni and the Fig is a sophisticated, fruit-forward riff on the traditional Negroni. It’s perfect for those who enjoy the classic cocktail but are looking for a twist that adds a layer of sweetness and depth without overpowering the signature bitterness.
